What is Plagiarism?

To present an idea or product from an existing source as new and original. To pass off the work of another as one's own.

(Merriam-Webster, 2019)

How do you avoid plagiarizing?

  • Give credit to the creator using an established citation style (e.g. APA or AMA).
  • Remember to cite any images, videos or other other media.
  • Content you get by siting in on a presentation, interviewing an expert, etc. needs to be cited.
  • Put source content in your own words. Don't copy large chunks of text from a source.
