The IWK Health Centre provides quality care to women, children, youth and families, in the Maritime Provinces and beyond. In addition to providing highly specialized (tertiary) care, the IWK also provides primary care services. The IWK is engaged in leading-edge research; works to promote healthy lifestyles for families; and supports education opportunities for health professionals and other learners.
IWK, 2020

NSHA Library Services, in collaboration with IWK Library Services, has created a Pediatrics subject guide to bring together select knowledge-based resources to support the delivery of health care to infants, children and youth across the province of Nova Scotia.

Health professionals from many organizations in Nova Scotia may find this subject guide useful, including staff from NSHA, IWK, Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness, VON and other homecare providers. Please note that many of the resources listed in this subject guide are publicly available, but some are licensed and are available only to people affiliated with particular institutions, as indicated.

In this guide you will find useful information such as:

  • links to trusted guidelines from various professional associations
  • links to reliable drug information sources, including IWK’s pediatric drug information resource
  • a select list of specialty ebooks and journals
  • pediatric resources for home health professionals
  • links to hundreds of patient pamphlets from IWK and NSHA, as well as other patient education resources

This guide will be updated as new resources become available, so be sure to bookmark the page for easy access and share it with your professional teams.

NSHA and the IWK Health Centre Library Services staff carry out literature search requests, obtain materials such as journal articles through document delivery, and offer research guidance to staff members at both organizations. Staff and physicians are encouraged to get in touch with NSHA library staff at AskLibrary@nshealth.ca or IWK library staff at HSLibrary@iwk.nshealth.ca.
