Outcomes

At the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the goal of oxygen therapy and identify signs and symptoms of hypoxia
  • Define and differentiate between oxygen modalities utilized within Nova Scotia Health 
  • Identify common disease processes and reasonings which would require a tracheostomy 
  • Demonstrate tracheostomy stoma site care, including inner cannula change and suctioning, guided by Nova Scotia Health policies and procedures
  • List and explain required emergency equipment for a patient with a tracheostomy
  • Discuss anticipated investigations and actions for a decompensating respiratory patient
