Preceptorship Model at NSHA


A preceptor is an experienced practitioner who:

  • provides supervision during clinical practice
  • works with a learner for a defined period of time
  • assists the learner by setting expectation and providing effective feedback

Various professions also have other terms for the role of a preceptor such as mentor, or field, clinical or agency supervisor.

The preceptee is the individual in the learner role. They may be a student, a new hire, or an experienced practitioner entering a new role.
