The Estimated Date of Discharge (EDD) is the care team’s best estimate of when a patient may go home or be discharged to another facility for continued care. An EDD helps guide planning and keeps patients and families informed every step of the way.
An EDD must be entered in STAR/Meditech for all inpatients. As EDD information is entered/modified in STAR/Meditech, it is automatically displayed (within minutes) on the C3 Capacity Expediter (CE) and Patient Manager (PM) tiles available at every inpatient unit across Nova Scotia Health.

EDD details are available in both STAR and Meditech. Users can generate printed reports from these systems however, it is important to note that printed EDD information may become outdated quickly.

Estimated Date of Discharge (EDD) dashboards provide an overview of EDD entry and discharge patterns to support proactive discharge planning and patient flow across Nova Scotia Health. Filters such as Zone, Site, Site Type, Unit Category, and Unit Group ID allow users to focus on specific facilities or units. Users can also subscribe to receive a snapshot of a view by email at regular intervals.
Estimated Date of Discharge (EDD) dashboards also provide broader insights into unit-level performance and administrative efficiency, helping teams identify trends and improve documentation practices.

The Estimated Date of Discharge Tracking dashboard is a restricted-access report designed to monitor EDD entry trends by site and unit. It displays the number of encounters with an EDD recorded for each census date within selected units.
