Pain Self-Management Patient Resources

Chronic Pain Services helps individuals manage pain and improve their health, function and well-being. The Chronic Pain teams provide assessments, treatments and education for people living with chronic pain.

The teams may include doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers and other health care professionals that specialize in pain management. Services vary based on facility, area of the province and level of care. A referral from your primary care provider (physician or nurse practitioner) is required to be seen in one of the clinics.

Some of the strategies they may recommend include:

  • Education on self-management and understanding pain
  • Medication
  • Psychological support
  • Exercise and physical therapy
  • Nutritional counselling
  • Relaxation strategies
  • Nerve blocks
  • Ergonomic strategies
  • Strategies for improving sleep, physical fitness, energy/fatigue, nutrition and mental health
  • Connecting to social and community services
