Long–term care facilities are required to have a formal structure in place to oversee the activities of their infection prevention and control program1.
An IPAC program is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, and processes to prevent the transmission of microorganisms in the facility. This includes a designated person assigned to the program to oversee infection prevention and control activities throughout the facility.
All nursing homes and residential care facilities that are licensed by the Nova Scotia Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care must meet the stated program requirements2.
