Health Transformation Hub

Key Messages

  • Together with our health care, government and community partners, we are developing an integrated Digital Health Strategy that will:
    • Build on investments in existing solutions, innovation and infrastructure
    • Identify gaps and prioritize future investments to further transform how we deliver health services
  • It is necessary to have a robust digital health strategy as we modernize our infrastructure and systems, and our teams and health care system become increasingly digitally connected
  • This strategy will enable us to develop a multi-year digital solutions investment roadmap. It will serve as a cornerstone for digitization initiatives, such as:
    • One Person One Record (OPOR)
    • The Care Coordination Centre (C3)
    • Expanding virtual care
    • Introducing a patient portal access point to support Nova Scotians as they navigate the health system.
  • The work happening through the Integrated Digital Health Strategy and Digital Enablement will directly support the six solutions identified in Action for Health, the Government’s strategic plan for the health care system.

Overview

Technology is a true enabler of an efficient, modern and equitable health care system. It supports us in:

  • Providing quality care for patients and their families
  • Attract and retaining talent across the health system

Government has taken one of the biggest steps forward to connect and transform health care in Nova Scotia with the approval of OPOR, a clinically-led project, designed provincially and implemented locally. Clinical engagement is a key priority for the project team. OPOR will be designed and built with the needs of clinicians and their patients at the core, and will significantly improve the way health professionals use and share patient information. This new, modern technology will save significant time and energy that can be better spent providing patient care.

Investing in digital solutions will ensure that clinicians have access to information anytime, anyplace and anywhere, to deliver quality care that benefits both patients and providers. This information also underpins our ability to be a learning health system that embraces continuous quality improvement and innovation.
